In General

Adbhuta Ramayana is a version of Ramayana. This small text of 1355 verses divided into 27 chapter and is believed to be later work, however the authorship is ascribed to Valmiki. The text follows strong Sakteya tradition and Sita is the Shakti, She ultimately wins the war over the Asuric forces lead by Ravana.

Purana

The story is significantly different from Valmiki Ramayana although the central characters are same. The cruelty of Ravana increased against sages and common man increased at an alarming rate. Mandodari, the principal wife of Ravana felt sorry for the desperate people once tried to commit suicide by consuming poison. Instead of death she got conceived. She abandon the fetus in the Kurukshetra field in a box. While during a holy Yajna king Janaka plough the field and discover the infant Sita developed from the fetus. Sita get married to Rama; both have a forest life and she was abducted by Ravana. While fighting with Ravana, Rama was wounded and become unconscious; Sita then assume the form of Sakti and fought with Ravana and made great havoc and won the war. Rama then regained the consciousness and completes the victory. Then all of them return back to Ayodhya. The story end with coronation of Rama.
